peeps have been quick to jump on my new little max4live project Vizzable which has been great.
I put together a quick live set to take this audiovisual automobile for a test drive:
this is going to be the format of the new Zeal live set except expect some acoustic guitar, live sampling and words that sound nice but don’t mean much.
i’ve been wanting to run video plugins since before Max for Live came into existence and Max/MSPs VIZZIE VJ modules seemed perfect as Ableton plugins. so i swapped out all the non-MIDI automatable parts and shoehorned some plugins together.
These plugins are completely compatible with the amazing V-module suite by Fabrizio Poce. These two projects have now merged to provide a comprehensive suite of video, effects and real-time graphics tools for Live. If you’d like to become involved in testing and developing these plugins please join us in this google group.

there goes 2010. zeal relocated to melbourne and good things happened! starting with what’s happening right now and working back… i’m currently in adelaide where i’m set up in a bunker, recording new songs for some sort of ep early in the new year.
My album is ranked third on a whothehell.net ”list”. It’s the second time i’ve ever been on a list and it’s still fun.
Last week my song “clouds” made a top songs of 2010 podcast on polaroids of androids. it was the first time i’d ever been on a list and it was fun.
i played alot of shows this year, all of which had secret words, many of which i can’t remember. some were:
it’s the first time i’ve played either of these venues. also, i might whip out a VJ set at the toff gig…
there’ll be one more show in Radelaide before the year is up but i’ll post about that later. until then, enjoy a preview of colourful things in the works…
I’m supporting Parallel Lions next Thursday, November 18 at the Builders Arms. This is a really exciting gig for me, Parallel Lions features Ollie from Art of Fighting who are high on my list of favourite bands ever. And actually, I stole some AoF lyrics and used them as a reoccurring theme in my last album. If you can figure out what that lyrical snippet is email me or leave a comment you’ll win a CD copy of my album. And I’ll be very impressed.
Also, go listen to the Parallel Lions record ’cause it’s really great.
Working on some new visual material at the moment too, hopefully will have the Zeal live A/V set up and running for next year.
Hobart + Music = Yeah! was officially awesome. I’ve come home wanting to play more house shows. I’ll throw up pics and video as they become available… like this one!
Anyone following my tweets or facebook might have seen this campaign that was run by the wonderful and not at all paranoid polaroids of androids to land me another gig in sydney. well, it worked!
this show is on top the the show on the 18th at the gate which is sold out at this stage but if you register here you may be able to claim a spot. the loft show on the 17th is free so come, come, come! i’ve gotta say, the most awesome people exist on the internet. so many lovely people have helped line all this up but i’ll thank them all in audible words at these shows. i’ll also be on FBi talking about stuff and playing a tune or two on the 17th around 4:30. yay sydney.
and of course this weekend is hobart=music=yeah!(!)
way, way, way exciting. if you come to either of these shows you’ll be among the first to see my guitar in it’s new shiny form:
Zeal’s live Sydney debut is upon us! I’m playing The Gate with Seekae and Bon Chat, Bon Rat on Saturday, September 18th. Apparently the show is selling out fast so if you’re a Sydneysider and wanna catch me play better go reserve your spot. Also, check the facebook event. As mentioned in my previous post, I’m doing lots of vaious live things in the next few weeks so if you’re in Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmania or Radelaide keep an ear to this here intertron cyber-blog.
In other news, I’ve discovered my hallway sounds amazing and am exploiting it to the best of my abilities. New sounds coming your way soon. Said sounds may or may not sound like this.
My goodness. There’s alot coming up over the next two months. One biggie in about a fortnight is HOBART + MUSIC = YEAH! A festivus of wonders… I just made up that byline… maybe it’ll be picked up next year. I’m playing with the splederous tiger choir who i’ve played with twicebefore and there are a stack of other great bands playing. Also it’s cold and there are devils. what more could you want?
I’m also working on a new VJ set for a live audio visual project for james annesley in his solo electronic guise. I’m incorporating live video feeds into this set which is something new for me. Dr Who style video feedback FTW! I’m going to trial some of the new material still in it’s learning-to-walk phase this sunday at the workers club. We’ll see how it goes…
but wait there’s more. I’m playing a show in Sydney September 18th which is way exciting as i’m yet to have carved up that particular town with my plastic axe of doom. I’ll put a proper post up about that show soon. There’s still more because there’ll probably be a radelaide show shortly after that. Ampersand there’s even more because after that i’ll be at this years This is Not Art speaking as part of panel on alternative controllers in electronic music… spoiler alert: ergonomics, stage presence and the buttler did it. My new album is still free BTW.
So if you’re in Sydney you should listen to FBi all week. And if your elsewhere you should still listen to FBi all week.
If you’re in Melbourne then this Thursday you should come down to The Builders Arms where I’ll be playing with The Motifs and Tailor Made For A Small Room who are both great. I’ll have my party hat on and will blast some new tunes.
Zeal is 27 year-old Melbournite, Robert Jarvis. He makes anticon-esque indie-pop-tronica, animated music videos about cats in space and software that enables you to do all sorts of stuff.
